ALTAMONT — Marti Sanderson was “a devoted mother of three, and a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother,” said her husband, Richard Sanderson Sr.

Martha “Marti” (née Hoyt) Sanderson died at Saint Peter’s Hospital in Albany surrounded by her family on Monday, March 12, 2018. She was 73.

Mrs. Sanderson was born in Cobleskill on Aug. 10, 1944, to Walter Cuttleback and Mary Hoyt. She was an only child.

She graduated from Schoharie High School, and would meet with classmates every year for a reunion, Mr. Sanderson said.  

Mrs. Sanderson met Mr. Sanderson when she was 18 and he was 17. They were married on Jan. 14, 1966. The union lasted 52 years, ending only with her death.

The couple bought their first home on Bozenkill Road in Altamont 50 years ago. After spending the years between 1989 and 1993 in Florida, the Sandersons moved back to Altamont and setted on Maple Avenue.

Mrs. Sanderson was a homemaker.

Her husband said that her hobby was being a “professional grandmother,” and that she was known as “Nonnie” to many. She was also an auxiliary member of American Legion Post 977.

Mr. Sanderson said that the couple enjoyed going out to dinner with members of the Adirondack Shelby Mustang Club, of which he was a member. “Every Friday was date night,” he said.

“She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and loved by all those who got the pleasure of meeting her,” her family wrote in a tribute. “Her sweet yet feisty nature and beautiful face were impossible to forget.”

Martha Sanderson is survived by her husband, Richard Sanderson Sr.; their three children: Rae-Ann Lynch of Guilderland, Richard “RJ” Sanderson Jr. of Altamont and Renée, and Mari Sanderson of Altamont.

She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Nicole “Nikki” Lynch, Adam “Bubba” Lynch, Jordan “Talula” Blanding, Tatiana Leonard, Olivia Graham, Richie Sanderson, and Riley Sanderson; and by her three great-grandchildren: Avinessa LaBombard, Nora Palmer, and Alanna Lynch.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Fredendall Funeral Home, at 199 Main Street, in Altamont. A funeral service will be held following calling hours. After services, a celebration of her life will be held at the American Legion Post in Altamont; all are welcome.
