To the Editor:

It was barely three weeks ago that President Donald Trump declared: Take the guns away, go through the process later.

In his letter to The Altamont Enterprise of March 1, Albany County Legislator Mark Grimm far exceeds providing just his opinion on the current legal matter of Guilderland Town Justice Richard Sherwood. After reading his first sentence, the remainder of letter assumes guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Marching in lockstep with his Republican leader, Mr. Grimm joins the president, making short shrift of the laws and constitutions of New York and the United States, which both have duly sworn to uphold at the national level and Mr. Grimm at the state level.

His letter also mocks those who are supportive on a personal level of Judge Sherwood. Apparently, those individuals are waiting to consider the evidence brought forward in a trial if there is a trial before concluding guilt or innocence. And a fair trial requires objective jurors and not ones that have been tainted by letters and television appearances by politically motivated politicians.

Has Mr. Grimm violated his oath of office as Albany County Legislator? That would be for the legislature to decide.
