Papas arrested for rape

GUILDERLAND — A 24-year-old man was arrested this month for raping and assaulting a minor.

Philip J. Papas, of 1245 Western Ave., was arrested at his home, on May 15, for rape of a person under 17 years of age, a felony, and assault with intent to cause physical injury, obstruction of breathing, second-degree menacing with a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child, all misdemeanors.

According to the Guilderland Police report, Papas, who is unemployed, was arrested after an investigation into allegations of rape.

The alleged rape and assault took place at Papas’s home on Sept. 1, 2013, according to the report.

Captain Curtis Cox of the Guilderland Police Department told The Enterprise this week that he had no further information about the arrest.

Papas was arraigned in the Guilderland Town Court in front of Judge Richard Sherwood and sent to Albany County’s jail on $15,000 bail.
