Photos: Racing to States

Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Voorheesville, and Guilderland sent their best runners to compete for team and individual titles to advance to Saturday’s state tournament at Wayne High School of Section 5 in Ontario Center in western New York.

Off to a good start: Guilderland’s Noah Tindale sprints toward the front pack in the Section 2 boys’ cross-country Class A race. Tindale, who qualified last year for States, finished ninth with a time of 15:31.32 and didn’t make the cut. His team finished fifth with 141 points.

Noticing the crowd: Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s Michelle Puzulis runs toward the finish line in the Class D; she finished in seventh place with a time of 19:48.67 and qualified for states. The BKW girls’ team finished in sixth with 200 points.

Jackson finished in 13th place with a time 17:27.73; BKW had no team score since it had only three runners.

Running with a smile: Voorheesville’s Evan Ensslin qualified again for states in the class C race. Here, Ensslin races past LaSalle runners cheering him on in his third-place finish with a time of 16:29.91. His team finished sixth with 229 points.

Voorheesville Blackbird Mariem Sayahi, a seventh-grader, leads her team as she sprints toward the finish in the girls’ Class C race, finishing in sixth place with a time of 20:17.05. Sayahi qualified for States and her team finished in seventh place with 176 points.
