GUILDERLAND — For the third year in a row, the youth group of the Christ Church of the Capital Region will hold a fund-raiser in Tawasentha Park. This year, the money raised will help build an AIDS clinic in Zimbabwe.

The event, called Nervosity 2009, will feature a high school battle of the bands, said youth leader, and Nervosity intern, Keegan Burke-Falotico. High school students can sign up their bands at www.nervosity.org, where people can vote for the bands they would like to see perform. Burke-Falotico said he will be counting votes and updating the website each day until the June 19 event.

“With battle of the bands, the event is geared toward teenagers, but it’s really a fun family experience, and the money goes to a great cause,” said Burke-Falotico.

The goal is to raise $10,000, to be given to an organization called Forgotten Voices, which would formally send the money to Zimbabwe to help build the clinic to treat those with Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. Attendance to the event is free, but every dollar raised from the sale of food, raffle tickets, and T-shirts, will be donated to the cause, said Burke-Falotico.

Last year, Nervosity raised money to help build clean water wells in Zimbabwe, and in 2007 they donated their funds to build another AIDS clinic. The Christ Church of the Capital Region has held similar events for the past seven years, originally as an event to help high school students celebrate the end of the school year safely, but the past three have focused on global consciousness.
