Volvos still serviced in town

NEW SCOTLAND — Volvo owners here can continue to get service where they always have — locally. And those who drove their Volvos, BMWs, or Mini Coopers to Colonie for service at Precision Automotive can now find it closer to home.

The property at 50 Voorheesville Ave. was the longtime home to Voorheesville native Rich Frohlich’s auto repair shop, and is now the second location of Precision Automotive. Precision specializes in Volvo repair, following the work Frohlich did, and also sells used Volvos.

The property was offered to Sean Nava and his business partner David Mooney by Rich Frohlich in October 2012. “We repaired some Volvos for him before,” Nava said.

“He approached us a couple years ago to plan his retirement,” said Nava. “He wanted to have his property go to a reputable business that would take care of his customers.”

Nava and Mooney have been leasing the property and plan to buy it in the future.

They have had a Precision Automotive located in Colonie since 2003; Nava described adding a Voorheesville location as “another way to be accommodating to our customers in this area.”

Nava started working on cars at 16, and began servicing Volvos specifically at an independent shop when he was 19. His former employer had done business with Mooney — who has been in car sales for over 30 years — which got the two acquainted early on.

A few years later, Nava didn’t like the direction his boss was taking the shop, and was bouncing around among vehicle-service related jobs.

One evening, Mooney called him up to talk business.

“I had been fixing his sales cars out of my garage for a while,” Nava said, regarding the Colonie Precision location Mooney has owned since 1997.

“He asked me if I wanted to start my own service department at his business… 11 years later, here we are.”

Both Precision Automotive locations offer sales and service for Volvos, BMWs, and Mini Coopers.

“We can do everything the dealership can do minus factory warranty repairs,” Nava said.
