Lois P. Van Buren

ALBANY — Lois P. Van Buren, formerly of Knox, died on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, at the Teresian House. “She was called home to be with the Lord after a lifelong battle with health issues,” her family wrote in a tribute. She was 81.

She was born in Seward, New York on Feb. 25, 1936 to the late Rev. Russell B. and Ruth Greene of Central Bridge, New York.

She is survived by her brothers, Rev. Russell Greene and David R. Greene; special nieces and nephews Robert, John, Chuck, Steve, Jim, Patricia, Kenneth, Gordon, Katherine, and Harold; many other nieces and nephews as well as many great and great-great nieces and nephews; and the Van Buren family.

Her loving husband, Jesse, died before her, as did her sister, R. Esther Conklin, and her special nephew, Tom. She was fond of her cat, Fluffy, who died before she did.

The family would like to acknowledge the employees and friends of the Teresian House where she was loved and cared for for 21 years as well as all those who took the time to visit and show their love and support to her. A memorial service will be held at the Teresian House at a later date.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at the Fredendall Funeral Home at 199 Main Street in Altamont from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 28, at 11 a.m. at the Helderberg Lutheran Church in Berne with interment to follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Guilderland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Helderberg Lutheran Church, 1728 Helderberg Trail, Berne, NY 12023.

    He died peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2025, at Ellis Hospital. He was 71.
