The month of September has been very busy for our Helderberg Ambulance squad. We answered 48 calls with 30 transports to local hospitals.

Due to the volunteers’ busy schedules, we turned over nine calls to the Albany County Sheriff’s ambulance squad. Of the calls Helderberg Ambulance handled, 35 were during the daytime and 13 were at night.  So far this year, the squad has responded to 306 calls.

We welcomed a new member who lives in Pine Park and is joining the squad as a driver. We are always looking for new members to join the squad. Remember: You can join as a driver, an attendant, or you can pursue the certification to be an emergency medical technician. We meet the second Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. at the station on Cole Hill Road.

The squad is also busy with community events. This month, Captain Dave Tiffany took the ambulance to the Knox Nursery School. The children had a tour of the ambulance and had lots of good questions for Dave.

Krista and Randy were stationed at the first football game of the season at Berne-Knox-Westerlo. The next football game is Oct. 7. Be sure to come out and watch the team and visit with our squad members.

The squad has also been asked to provide coverage for the PTA-sponsored 5K run in memory of Jean Forti. This will be held on Oct. 14.

Two of our members will be attending Pulse Check in Albany for training.

With the summer weather upon us, be sure you stay hydrated when doing work outside.
