Clifford William Bouton, who worked for a tree company and adored his family, died peacefully on Monday, Sept. 4, 2017 in his  Saugerties, New York home after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Ervin and Gertrude Merwin Bouton.

Known to his family and friends as “Bill,” Mr. Bouton attended Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School, after which he entered the Army National Guard.

“At an early age, Bill would help on his sister Roses’s and brother-in-law Norm’s vegetable farm,” his family wrote in a tribute.

He started working for the Davey Tree Company in 1963, and was a 1966 graduate of the Davey Institute of Tree Sciences; he retired as district manager after 43 years.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed hiking, gardening, landscaping, and being involved in his church,” his family wrote. “And he adored his family.”

The tribute concluded, “Bill will be deeply missed by his family and friends.”

Clifford William Bouton is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Tina Porter Bouton, and his daughters, Monica Poitras and her husband, Larry, and Danielle Bouton-Wales and her husband, Bill; by his grandson, Benjamin Poitras; by his step-grandchildren, Eric and Danielle Wales; by his three sisters, Rose Grounds, Myrtle Bouton, and Beverly Morey; by his two brothers, Irving Bouton and John Bouton.

His parents died before him, as did his brothers, James and Timothy, and four sisters: Dorothy, Edna, Bertha, and Ethel.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, Sept. 8, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Fredendall Funeral Home at 199 Main Street in Altamont, with a service to follow at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Berne.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacandaga Bible Conference, 191 Lakeview Road, Broadalbin, NY  12025. Mr. Bouton, as a child, and later his grandson, spent time at the camp there, which Mr. Bouton continued to support throughout his life.
