EAST BERNE — Tammy Sue Ferriero is described by her family as “a loving, compassionate person who was so genuine and contagious, it would light up the moon.” Born in 1969, she died on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017.

Her family wrote in a tribute that she “passed into eternal life after a long, courageous, and fearless battle with cancer.”

She grew up in East Berne, attended the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Central School District, the Austin School of Cosmetology, and Bryant and Stratton Medical Technology.

“Her most recent employment was at Capital Care of Berne with amazing staff,” her family wrote. “She also worked at home as a beautician for loving and caring clients.”

“She loved her family and friends, her cat and two dogs, big campfires, full moons, dragonflies, and life,” her family wrote. “She was admired by all knew her for her incredible strength and courage to never give up; and the loving guidance she gave to all her friends.

“She had an army of over 600 followers called ‘Tammy’s Helpers’ who fought and prayed for her every day and comforted her till the end.”

She was the adored daughter of Barbara and Don Gray; the devoted mother and best friend to her sons, Christopher, Chet “Tas,” and Shane; and loving friend to Chad Ferriero.

She is also survived by her loving sister Wendy Pollard and her husband, Marc; by her brother, Donivan Pitcher and his wife, Tracy; and by several nieces and nephews, and aunts and uncles.

“Special thanks to Chrissy, Stene, Hadley, Joslynn, Michelle, Lisa, Amy, Julie, Jill, Gina, Sheri, Tara, and Dr. Kristin Mack for making the last few months bearable,” her family wrote.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, Aug. 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the American Legion Post 977 at 988 Altamont Blvd. in Altamont.
