Photos: Best Foot Forward

On a warm and breezy Saturday, the Guilderland boys’ and girls’ outdoor track team took part in the 52nd annual Colonie Relays held at Colonie High School. The girls’ team won with a score of 117 while the boys’ team finished in fourth place with a score of 73. For some events, schools had groups of three athletes and combined their distances and points to determine an overall winner in that event.

Getting the girls’ team off on the right foot, Guilderland's 3-by-100-meter shuttle hurdle relay team of Ify Ojukwu, Hanna Durant, and Josette Muamba was in the first heat of the relay. The relay team won with a time of 50.38 seconds, nearly two seconds faster then Shenendehowa.

With ease: Guilderland's Josette Muamba wins the heat for the Dutch and first overall in the 3-by-100-meter shuttle relay.

Splashing away: Guilderland’s Erin Miceli, in the water, and Alexis Anagnostopolos, on the barrier, compete in the 2000-meter steeplechase. Miceli finished in second place with a time of 7:48.12, and teammate Anagnostopolos finished in third with a time of 7:54.15.

Record breaking: Guilderland’s Isabella Bruno jumps and clears five feet to tie for first but the relay team finished second overall with a total height of 14, feet 3 inches. Bruno was part of the long- and triple-jump relay teams, which finished first. The long-jump team broke its own school record with a total distance of 46 feet, 11 3/4 inches, while the triple-jump team broke the school record, with a total of 105 feet and three-quarters inches, and broke the meet record of 104 feet, 7-and-a quarter inches, as well.

Smooth sailing: Guilderland’s Madison Bini clears 4 feet, 6 inches in the high-jump relay Saturday morning at the Colonie Relays at Colonie High School where Bini finished sixth. Bini along with teammates Isabella Bruno and Trinity Kenney finished in second place with a total of 14 feet, 3 inches.

The boys’ team had some good events too. The 4-by-800-meter relay team, middle right, of Arthur Horan, Noah Tindale, Noah Carey, and Andrew Horan led from start to finish. The relay team won with a time of 7:58.60, which broke the 2000 record from Albany of 8:02.2. Here Arthur Horan passes the baton to teammate Noah Tindale.

With a flick of the wrist: Guilderland’s Mete Rice competes in discus. Rice won with a distance of 140 feet, 5 inches but the team finished in second place overall.

Upper-body strength: Guilderland’s Caroline Murphy uses her strength on the pole as she easily clears 7 feet en route to a 10th-place finish in the pole-vault relay. Murphy along with Meghan Brewer and Ally Schultz finished in fourth place at the Colonie Relays with a height of 21 feet, 6 inches.
