Middle and high schoolers are invited to hang out, starting at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24 at the library. You can play geeky games, or make something high-tech or low-tech. Make an earring holder or button organizer with our craft supplies. Use the Leap Motion, the 3D scanner, or 3D printer with our laptops. Tackle a building challenge in Minecraft, invent something with the littleBits electronics kits, or program our new Ozobots. Light refreshments will be served.
Brain building and the power of play
The word is out — we have all heard that the early years are the learning years. But as a parent, do you worry about how you can ensure that your child is receiving the maximum number of brain building opportunities? Put your worries to rest. The solution is simple, and natural, young children learn best through play. The Capital District Child Care Council will present a workshop on Saturday, March 4 at 10:30 a.m., to show parents how play supports all children’s developmental learning needs — social, emotional, physical and cognitive — and how parents can best support their child’s play. On-site childcare will be available on a first come, first served basis. Space is extremely limited, so please register early if you will need childcare.
Elder Law
This presentation, on Monday, March 6, will benefit senior citizens and those concerned about senior citizens. At 1:30 p.m., Mark Brody, a past principal attorney in the Office of the NYS Attorney General’s office, will discuss powers of attorney, trusts, living wills, and health care proxies. There will be ample time for questions.
Introduction to the World Wide Web
Ever feel like the World Wide Web is just a little too… wide? Join us on Monday, March 6 to learn the basics of connecting to and navigating the Internet. We’ll talk about how the tubes work, look at different browsers, study the basic construction of a webpage, explore a handful of search engines, briefly talk security, and along the way pick up some useful search tips. Participants can bring their own devices, or use one of the library’s laptops. The first class will start at 10 a.m. and the second class will begin at 6 p.m. Please register for one session only, as space is very limited.
Discover tea
As part of our Foodie Series, please join us as we welcome tea ambassador Matthew, from Short and Stout Tea in Guilderland, on Wednesday, March 8 at 7 p.m. Matthew will lead our discussion on what tea is, tea history, and how tea is brewed. And, of course, there will be tea tasting.
