GUILDERLAND — Barbara Fouhy, described by her daughter-in-law as a “very loving and caring woman,” died at home in Lake Placid, on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, surrounded by her family. She was 90.

Mrs. Fouhy was born in Amsterdam, N.Y. and attended Rider College. She and her husband, the late Bernard Fouhy, raised their family in Guilderland.

She worked for the State of New York in the cytogenetics lab until her retirement.

After her retirement, she moved to Harwich, Mass., and then Lake Placid, where she spent her time sewing, and enjoying her children and many grandchildren.

“Her family filled her life the most,” said Kathleen Whitcomb, Mrs. Fouhy’s daughter-in-law.

Mrs. Whitcomb said her mother-in-law spent her retirement traveling throughout the year to visit different family members, and every Thanksgiving, she would rent a house to host the holiday for the entire family.

“She was so interested in fostering the family connection,” Mrs. Whitcomb said.

Mrs. Fouhy is survived by her brother, Alfred Boguzes, and her sister, Phyllis Gutowski; her children, Michael and his wife, Kathleen, Mark, and his wife, Mary Beth, Mary Lynn Morganson, and her husband, James, John, and his wife, Christine, and Jacqueline; and many grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The family will hold a private memorial service later this fall. She will be interred, alongside her late husband, a veteran of World War II, at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to High Peaks Hospice, Tri-Lakes Office, 19 Church St., Saranac, NY 12983.
