Smoky scene: Several fire trucks are outside 159 Maple Ave. at about 7 p.m. on Friday night for a “culinary mishap,” said Altamont Fire Chief Paul Miller. “The husband who lived there — his wife wasn’t home at the time — threw something in the microwave, and I’m not sure what happened, but it caught on fire in the microwave and filled the house with smoke.” It was the husband who called, Miller said. When firefighters arrived, they took the microwave outside, and brought in fans to clear away the smoke. The only lasting damage, Miller said, was to the microwave.
