Joseph Michael Colligan

Joseph Michael Colligan

Joseph Michael Colligan, a United States Air Force veteran and restaurant manager, died peacefully, at his home, on Monday, Dec. 12, 2014. He was 50.

Mr. Colligan was born on Nov. 2, 1964, in Goshen, to the late Joseph and Margaret (née Cunningham) Colligan.

He attended Goshen Central High School, where he played soccer on the junior-varsity and varsity teams for four years. He continued his involvement with soccer as a coach and a player into his adulthood, wrote his family in a tribute.

After high school, Mr. Colligan enlisted in the United States Air Force; he received an honorable discharge in 1987.

He worked for several years as a Client Financial Analyst for Citibank and distinguished himself through community programs, such as Kids Week, where he helped teach children the value of starting savings accounts and took an active role in promoting the Aids Walk in San Francisco.

After several years at Citibank, he shifted his career, and began working in restaurant management, which his family wrote was “a venue in which he thrived because he was such a people person.”

Mr. Colligan began his restaurant career at Brix Nightclub, and most recently, had accepted a new position as the general manager of the Continental Bar in San Jose’s SoFA district.

For the past 20 years, Mr. Colligan had lived in California, and was well-established and well-liked there, wrote his family.

He was a leader and board member of Gay Pride in the San Jose area.

“Joe will be missed by his family, colleagues, friends, and supporters,” wrote his family. “Rest in peace son, brother, uncle, partner, friend — until we meet again.”

Mr. Colligan is survived by his sisters, Carolyn C. DeLuise, and her children, of Guilderland, and Joanne Todd, and her husband, Steve, and their children, of Lake Forest, California; his nieces, Danielle Johnson and her family, of Columbia Falls, Montana, and Jacqueline M. DeLuise and Victoria DeLuise, of Guilderland; and his nephews, Gregory Johnson and his family, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Jay Warren and his family, of Laramie, Wyoming.

Services will be held in San Jose, California.
