Good for Guilderland, keeping its town pool open, and planning to rebuild, after fire destroyed its pool house. Every time we write a story about a drowning, we see the need for public pools where kids can learn to swim.

This weekend, artists and groups with musical traditions spanning the globe will converge on the fairgrounds in Altamont, for the 35th annual Old Songs Festival.

The Grace United Methodist Church at 16 Hillcrest Drive in Ravena will hold a book sale on Wednesday, July 29, through Saturday, Aug. 1. Each day, the sale will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. then, every day but Saturday, it will run again from 6 to 8 p.m.
