No tax hike with $31M town budget

GUILDERLAND — The general town tax rate will not increase in 2011, according to Supervisor Kenneth Runion, who filed the preliminary budget on Wednesday, one day before the state-mandated deadline.

GUILDERLAND — A bid for the first phase of a $5.27 million new Westmere firehouse project will be awarded on Oct. 4.

The old firehouse, built in 1956, will be torn down, and the new firehouse is slated to be complete by the spring of 2012.

Metro 20 will re-open as Capital City Diner

GUILDERLAND — The Metro 20 Diner is slated to re-open in November under new ownership, as the Capital City Diner.

ALTAMONT — The soldier statue stolen from the Home Front Café has been returned.

“He’s been nicked up a little bit,” said the café’s owner, Cindy Pollard. “It wasn’t badly damaged. We’ll unveil it soon.”

Funds cover a fraction of $7M needed to solve McKownville funding

ALTAMONT — In a show of support for Cindy Pollard, Altamont’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7062 is offering a $500 reward for the return of the soldier statue stolen from Pollard’s café in August.

GUILDERLAND — A restaurant that opened on Western Avenue in 2008 has been seized by the state for owing over $60,000 in sales tax.
