GUILDERLAND — Less than a decade after starting their vineyard, Joyce and James Besha have won 11 medals at the 38th Annual New York Wine Classic competition.

GUILDERLAND — Three men smashed the front window of an upscale boutique in Stuyvesant Plaza at about 12:43 a.m. on Tuesday, stealing merchandise, according to a release from Guilderland Police.

“This was a total mess because we were not notified and brought in when the design was being done,” said Anthony Carrow, the Westmere fire chief, of adequate space not being left for turning a large fire apparatus. “So that’s going to impact life safety and response in that area because now we’re going to have to go all the way around through Gipp Road.”

“I think the reason is because you want to do long-term planning and a lot of times you can’t do something in two years …,” said Supervisor Peter Barber. “You can’t do something without worrying about how people might perceive it.

In June, the village of Altamont announced it was awarded $1.4 million for sidewalks, while Voorheesville announced it had received a $10,000 Clean Energy Communities grant from the state, and New Scotland this month accepted a $19,000 parks grant from Albany County.

Aaron Mair says “The 200th anniversary is not just a celebration but a marker on how far we need to go. There is still work to be done for a more perfect union.”

On Aug. 7, the Guilderland Zoning Board of Appeals will hold a public hearing on a proposal from Kent Hansen to turn the former Peter Young Center at 1180 Berne-Altamont Road into the Inns of Altamont.
