Under a father’s watchful eye: Emma Shao, 7, in front, slides down the hill backwards as her cousin Kara Jia, 12, prepares to take the plunge while her father looks on. Both girls wore hot pink jackets to ward off the cold Tuesday morning — the temperature was 18 degrees but the wind chill made it feel like 5.

Dueling sledders: Three brothers race down a hill at Tawasentha Park on Tuesday morning. Sam Staszak, 7, far right, laughs as his older brothers Luke, 11, at center, and Jack, 14, try to get the upper hand but take each other out while he, unabated, sails to a win, smiling all the way.
