No home for the holidays: A fire on Stone Ridge Court Sunday morning left residents of the building without a home. Some of the fire victims are being assisted by the Guilderland Center Fire District and others are being helped by the American Red Cross. Pete Letko, who works at the water plant in Guilderland, said one of his employees, Greg Mahar, along with his wife, and two young children, have been displaced. Mahar, he said, was awakened around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday when the sliding glass doors of his apartment exploded due to the heat generated by the fire. Letko said those who want to help the Mahar family during this time can donate to the Mahar Family Emergency Fund at SEFCU. More information can be found on Facebook, in a group called Mahar Family.

Burned out building: A fire early Sunday morning at Stone Ridge Court Apartments leaves four families homeless. Sean Maguire, commissioner of the Westmere Fire Department, said the cause of the fire is undetermined after an investigation, and that the four-unit building is a “complete loss.” There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire, he said. The Guilderland Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Fort Hunter, Westmere, and North Bethlehem fire departments.
