Photos: Sayahi 5th in the State, Blackbirds 4th overall in Cross-Country

On Saturday, Nov. 13, the Voorheesville Girls Cross-Country team competed in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s state competition at Chenango Valley State Park in Port Crane. The Blackbirds raced against the top runners in New York and finished fourth overall with 111 points and Section 2 overall finished third with 404 points.

Off they go: The Voorheesville team — made up of Mariem Sayahi (268), Caitlin McCarthy (267), Lindsey Wight (269), Victoria Iacabucci (265), Alannah McCarthy (266), Mary Genovesi (264), and Merrin Brick (264) — race off the line with other members of Section 2 on Saturday morning. The Blackbirds finished fourth overall in the state with 111 points.

Early battle: Voorheesville’s Mariem Sayahi (268) races against Pipher Reid (467) of Chenango Forks and Hannah Goetz (690) of Springville early on in the Class C girls race. Sayahi finished fifth with a time of 19:18.2.

In a pack: Voorheesville runners Caitlin McCarthy (267) and Lindsay Wight (269) run next to each other early on along the 5K race course in the NYSPHSAA competition on Saturday morning. McCarthy finished 34th with a time of 20:57.8 and Wight finished 38th with a time of 21:06.0.
