Photos: Guilderville Makes A Splash to States

The Guilderland-Voorheesville girls’ swim team battled for a sectional title last Thursday through Saturday in hopes of qualifying for the state competition on Nov. 17 and 18 at Ithaca College. Guilderville is sending three relay teams along with numerous solo swimmers. Guilderville finished fourth with 289.5 points.

The divers got it started last Thursday. Guilderville’s Eliana Wallock flips during the second round of dives. She finished eighth with 456.30 points and is qualified for States.

Head over heels: Guilderville’s Maddy Alteri performs a dive last Thursday at Shenendehowa High School. Alteri finished in 17th place with 260.70 points.

During the preliminary round on Friday, Guilderville swimmers showed the other schools what they’ve got. Concentrating hard, Erin Wadsworth prepares to start the 100-yard backstroke. Wadsworth finished eighth Friday with a time of 1:00.21; then, in Saturday’s final, she finished seventh with a time of 1:00.72. Wadsworth qualified for states in the backstroke earlier in the year.

Surging ahead: Guilderville's Belen Marriaga competes in the 100-yard butterfly on Friday evening. Marriaga qualified in third with a time of 57.98 and then tied for second Saturday with a time of 57.13. Marriaga qualified for States in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly, and 100-yard freestyle.

Springing ahead: Guilderville's Stephanie Erickson starts the 200-yard freestyle relay on Friday evening. The relay team qualified in second with a time of 1:40.72; then, on Saturday, the team finished fourth in the finals with a time of 1:40.79, qualifying for States.

Throwing water back: Guilderville's Kasey Keaney competes in the 200-yard individual medley. Keaney finished fourth with a time 2:10.78; then, in the finals, she finished in fourth with a time of 2:09.61. Keaney qualified for States in the individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke.
