The emotions were running high for the Guilderland Dutchmen and the Voorheesville Blackbirds last weekend, in their sectional semifinals.

After a crushing 21-to-13 loss at the end of a glorious season, Voorheesville’s Brendan McMahon, squatting, sheds a tear knowing he played his last high school game in the Class C semifinal against Mechanicville at home Saturday.

Picked to win only one game, the Blackbirds won their division and finished with a 7-2 record, showing heart all year long. Senior running back Dalton Esposito, fighting for room tries to shake off Mechanicville’s Ross Stockman during the game. Esposito had 12 yards rushing on 11 carries.

Having another great year, the Guilderland Dutchmen went undefeated, 8-0, before losing to Shaker yet again in the Class AA sectional semifinal. Trying to stop the run, bottom left, Tyler Hess, center in air, along with teammates Stefan Brantley (35) and Mitch McCormack (56), get their hands on a Blue Bison running back during the second quarter. The Dutch had a tough time stopping Shaker in the 35-to-6 loss at home last Friday night.

Having an off night: Guilderland’s George Marinopoulos attempts a pass during the game as Joe Park looks on behind Marinopoulos. Park scored the lone touchdown for the Dutch on 44 rushing yards on eight carries. Marinopoulos had 13 completions on 28 attempts, 115 yards, and two interceptions.
