Hatsgiving: Students at Capital Region BOCES — like Lisel Walters of Schenectady, left, and Elizabeth Lorini of Guilderland — are collecting hats to help children battling cancer. Donations of new or handmade hats suitable for the winter months, sizes newborn to adult, will be accepted. Collections will continue until Nov. 19 on the Albany Campus and Nov. 20 at the Center for Advanced Technology. Anyone wishing to donate can send hats in with students on either campus. “Hatsgiving” was started by a North Colonie elementary student who is now almost 17 years old. The not-for-profit collected more than 6,400 hats last year, shipping them to 60 hospitals in 43 states for kids undergoing chemotherapy.
