A woman takes notes as an inspector on Saturday at Crossgates Mall checks a car seat to see if it is outdated or improperly installed. Albany County holds a free inspection every year. “At last year’s event, our team checked 135 car seats and only one was installed correctly. That’s less than 1 percent of all seats inspected. On top of that, 21 seats had to be replaced because of recalls, damages, or expirations. This is a pattern we see year after year and it should be a wake-up call to every parent out there with precious cargo,” said County Executive Daniel McCoy in a statement.

Safety measures: A woman holds her grandchild while a car-seat inspector talks with her about the safety aspects of the belts on the car seat as she received a new seat because the original one was out of date. The free event, held at Crossgates Mall this past weekend, was part of the Albany County Traffic Safety Awareness Show.
