Before the pumpkins came to life: Two sculptures made out of pumpkins stand ready for darkness to show off larger-than-life characters when the lights inside the pumpkins come on. Seven-thousand pumpkins line the infield of the Altamont fairgrounds, which takes 35 to 40 minutes to walk. The Hollowed Harvest event runs Thursday through Sunday until Nov. 1.

They’re watching you: Skeleton heads are lit under the dusk skies in Altamont on the opening night of the Hollowed Harvest put on by Bold Media. Other displays light up the night sky in a variety of colors. Unlike a haunted house, the displays focus on wonder rather than fear. Tickets may be purchased at www.hollowedharvest.com; no tickets will be sold at the event.
