Photos: First Finishers Fly

The Voorheesville Blackbirds’ cross-country runners showed off their speed and determination against the Albany Academies and Watervliet on Tuesday afternoon at Albany Academy.

The girls’ team started off quickly and ran well. Seventh-grader Mariem Sayahi led from the start and finished first overall in the varsity two-and-a-half-mile race with a time of 16:29. The girls’ team lost to Albany Academy, 25 to 31, and won against Watervliet, which had an incomplete team with four just runners.

The boys’ team flocked and soared throughout the course. Voorheesville’s Evan Ensslin broke away from the pack at the start and finished first in the boys’ varsity race with a time of 13:40. The boys lost to Albany Academy, 20 to 42, and won against Watervliet, which had only one runner.
