Remembering the fallen: Firefighting bunker gear rests on an otherwise empty chair in front of McKownville’s engine on Monday morning during the September 11th remembrance of the terrorists’ attacks in 2001 when 343 New York City firefighters died.

Solemn prayer: On Sept. 11, members of the McKownville Fire Department gather outside their firehouse beside the fire trucks to say a prayer and reflect on what happened 16 years ago when so many firefighters died, responding to the terrorists’ attacks on the Twin Towers in New York City.
