Getting the Dutch off on the right foot: Guilderland’s wide receiver Jared Schwartz carries the ball — one of his five carries in the game, gaining 55 yards and scoring three touchdowns, four in total with one recieving touchdown.

Waiting for the ball: Guilderland’s Steven Fedorchak catches and scores on a 51-yard pass. Fedorchak had three catches on 104 yards; he also had a 55-yard touchdown punt return.

Stellar from start to finish: The Guilderland defense was like a brick wall holding Niskayuna to only seven points in the Dutch’s 57-to-7 win.

Sept. 3 was a historic day at Berne-Knox-Westerlo. The Helderberg Valley football team, made up of BKW and Duanesburg, played a regular-season game in Berne, which hadn’t seen a home game since 1949. Helderberg Valley played with lots of determination against 2015 Class D Section 2 champion Whitehall. Pushing away a defender, Helderberg Valley’s Mike Flower, left, scampers up the sideline in the third quarter as Helderberg Valley fell, 24 to 6. Flower scored on a 66-yard pass from quarterback Dylan Duncan.

No quit: The defense played well in the first half as a Helderberg Valley player attempts to tackle the Railroaders’ quarterback.

Almost blocking a punt: Helderberg Valley players Gary Decarlo, foreground, and Joe Boni come around their blockers to get near the Whitehall punter.
