“The lions say cockadoodledoo”: At the Wackadoo Zoo, all the animals’ voices are out of whack. The lions crow, the monkeys bray like donkeys, and the cows meow. The animals don’t see any problem with the way they communicate, but a professor who comes to call makes it his mission to train all of them to sing correctly. The dozen kids in The Music Studio play culminated their summer workshop by performing at five area retirement communities.

Visiting across the generations: Adam Judson, 8, speaks with resident Celeste Dundy of Atria Crossgate, following an Aug. 17 performance by the children of The Music Studio’s “Catch a Rising Star” summer workshop. Judson played the Professor in a brief musical play called “The Wackadoo Zoo.” Judson told The Enterprise, about performing for elderly audiences: “It feels good to just comfort them and be nice to them.”

Glenn Durban, a World War II veteran and long-time Voorheesville resident celebrated his 100th birthday on Aug. 19 with family and friends at his Voorheesville home.

On their way: Albany County honored five students from Guilderland for their successful completion of the county’s summer internship program. “They were part of an outstanding class of 75 interns who joined various county departments this summer,” said county Legislator Mark Grimm, of Guilderland, who posed with the students. From left are: Summyrrh Woodard, a student at the University at Hartford; Alexis Holmes, a student at Hudson Valley community College; Grimm; Emma Runko, a student at the State University of New York college at Plattsburg; and Xavier Flowers, a student at the University at Hartford. Victoria Whipple was the fifth intern from Guilderland.

Making a splash: As school looms o the horizon, kids at Tawasentha Park in Guilderland savored summer pleasures on Wednesday. The pool is open to Guilderland residents from 12 to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday and 11:3 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends.
