Rennselaerville held an inaugural celebration named "Midway to Mardi Gras" that had a pig roast and the pageantry that a New Orleans Mardi Gras would have.

Leading the party: Greg Speck plays his accordion in Rensselaerville’s Mardi Gras parade on Saturday. Speck, a retired Berne-Knox-Westerlo teacher who led the musical group Captain Squeeze and the Zydeco Moshers, left the Hilltowns to live in New Orleans but returned for the Midway to Mardi Gras festivities.
