Summer is here and, on June 27, the Barbers opened their farmstand with lettuces, summer squashes, broccoli and cauliflower at their customary spots behind Passonno Paints on McKown Road. The hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, except on days when storms are predicted. “After the long winter and extended period of cool, rainy weather this spring I’m sure we’re more than ready to enjoy some delicious local produce,” said Ellen Manning, president of the McKownville Improvement Association.

Despite the rain, old and young — like this tike with a red umbrella — came to shop Wednesday from the many vendors at the Voorheesville Farmers’ Market in the parking lot of Voorheesville’s Methodist Church at 65 Maple Ave. The market, which offers baked goods, flowers, and crafts as well as produce, opened for its 10th season on June 20. It’s open Wednesdays from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.
