Photos: Guilderland And Bethlehem Bring Home State Champions

On Friday and Saturday, June 13 and 14, members of the Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Bethlehem, Guilderland, and Voorheesville track team battled against other track athletes around New York state as they competed in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s state track meet at Middletown High School.

Coming in hot: Guilderland’s Saida Assabahi comes around the final turn and starts to kick it into another gear in the 400-meter Class A race. Assabahi finished fourth in the state with a time of 56.17 seconds.

Step ahead: Guilderland’s Jack Larson sprints around the corner as he gets past Mamaroneck’s Mark Lebowitz as they battle in the 400-meter Class A race. Larson finished 11th in the state with a time of 49.50 seconds.

Pack battle: Blackbirds’ Savannah Schmidt runs in a pack in the third heat of the 800-meter race. Schmidt competed in Class C and finished 10th, 34th overall with a time of 2:19.86.

Fighting hard: Blackbirds’ Avery Grant gets to the inside of the pack as she starts around the turn in the second lap of Class C 800-meters. Grant finished 5th in Class C, 23rd overall with a time of 2:16.04.

Determined to get her: Guilderland’s Addison Vellekoop stares down Williamsville Easts Lilly Ascone as they start around the turn on their second lap in the 800-meters. Vellekoop finished 5th in the state and 6th in federations in Class A with a time of 2:09.24.

Big sail: Guilderland’s Kirsten Barnhart flies through the air after leaping off the board as she competes in the Class A long jump. Barnhart finished 5th in the state and 9th in federations with a distance of 18 feet, 8.50 inches.

Deep breath: Guilderland’s Parker Steele takes a breath as she clears the hurdle as she competes in the Class A 400-meter hurdles. Steele finished 3rd in the state with a time of 1:01.95.

Coming down to the wire: Guilderland’s Maryn Vrooman looks to put the baton into teammate Saida Assabahi’s hand as North Rockland’s team does the same in the Class A 4x100-meter relay. The relay team finished 8th in the state with a time of 48.25 seconds.

Quick release: Bulldogs’ Patrick Lendrum snatches the baton from teammate Nick Quay as Lendrum sprints away for the last handoff in the Class C 4x100-meter relay. The relay team finished third in the state with a time of 43.47 seconds.

Angry push off: Guilderland’s Tatum Cramer flies in the air after leaping off the board as she heads to the pit in the Class A long jump. Cramer won the state and federation title with a distance of 20 feet, 5.50 inches.

All-around splash: Eagles’ Sophia Chromczak lands into the pool after leaping off the barrier as she competes in the Class A 2000-meter steeplechase. Chromczak finished fourth in the state with a time of 6:54.33.

Big stretch: Bulldogs’ Arlan Wright extends his body as he flies through the air after leaping from the board in the long jump portion of the pentathlon. Wright finished 3rd in the state in Class C with 3142 points.

At the line! Bulldogs’ Kole Irwin battled with two runners as they all approached the finish line in the 100-meter dash in Class C. Irwin finished 2nd in the state with a time of 11.15 seconds.
