Guilderland and Voorheesville track-and-field athletes ran and jumped with the best at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association state competition at Middletown High School in Middletown last Friday and Saturday.

Voorheesville’s Evan Ensslin competed in the 800-meter run on Friday and in the 1600-meter run on Saturday. Ensslin finished eighth in the state in the 800-meter with a time of 1:54.26 and 18th in the 1600-meter with a time of 4:22.32.

Guilderland’s Will Cusato gets ready to start the boys’ four by 800-meter relay on Saturday afternoon. Cusato and the rest of the relay team — Nick Soldevere, Micah Tindale, and Noah Tindale — had the lead during the second leg but fell back to finish fourth in the state with a time of 7:48.25.

Making a splash: Guilderland’s Sean O’Brien competed in the boys’ 3200-meter steeplechase on Saturday morning. O’Brien finished 22nd in the state with a time of 9:56.22.
