Photos: Local Teams Will Send 21 To NYS Championships
This past Thursday and Friday, June 5 and 6, members of the Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Bethlehem, Guilderland, and Voorheesville track teams looked to qualify for the New York State Championships, if they hadn’t gotten the super standard to automatically qualify, in Middletown High School this Friday and Saturday. Twenty-one students qualified, which included six relay teams.

Track spread of runners as Guilderland’s Eryn Tynan (8), Eagles’ Katherine Bannigan (7), Guilderland’s Julia Beyer (6), Eagles’ Anna Chrapowitky (5), and Blackbirds’ Avery Grant (4) come around the track in their lane as they compete in the 800-meters. Grant already qualified for states, Tynan in 9th with a time of 2:24.87, Bannigan in 6th with a time of 2:18.72, Beyer in 7th with a time of 2:19.14, and Chrapowitky in 4th with a time of 2:18.02.

Neck and neck: Guilderland’s Brian Igweike and Eagles’ Markiem Brace break away from their blocks as they start going around the turn in their preliminary Class A 200-meters. Igweike finished 10th with a time of 23.77 seconds and Brace finished 9th with a time of 23.14 seconds.

Quick feet: Eagles’ Jonathan Radcliffe breaks away well from his blocks as he pumps his arms in the preliminary heat in the Class A 200-meters. Radcliffe finished third with a time of 21.98 seconds and on Friday qualified for states by winning with a time of 22.09 seconds.

Splashtastic: Eagles’ Sophia Chromczak (1) and Guilderland’s Alexa Kosier (11) make a big splash into the pool as they compete in the Class A 3000-meter steeplechase. Chromczak won and qualified for states with a time of 7:03.63 and Kosier in second with a time of 7:20.81.

With a light rain falling, Guilderland’s Joe Kosier (12) and Eagles’ Calvin Howard (4) run shoulder to shoulder as they come off the turn as they compete in the 1600-meters. Kosier finished 4th in Class A with a time of 4:17.61 and Howard in 10th with a time of 4:38.14.
