Photos: Striving For States

Getting to states, in Syracuse, is the ultimate goal for runners and field-event athletes. Local athletes first had to succeed at the State Qualifiers at Shenendehowa High School on June 2 and 3.

Running to states, Guilderland’s Noah Tindale went wire to wire in the 800-meter event last Thursday. Tindale’s time was 1:55.11; he also competed in the 1600-meter and finished in third with a time of 4:24.17.

Hand battle mid race: Guilderland’s Noah Carey competes in the 3200-meter race last Thursday as he fought near the front of the pack till he pulled away late and won. Carey’s time was 9:41.65; he also won the 1600-meters with a time of 4:20.34.

Putting out every inch of effort, Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s Shayla Lyons competes in the shot put last Friday. Lyons finished third — at 38 feet, 11 inches — beaten on the last throw. But she will be going to states in the discus, having hurled 120 feet, 4 inches in the event.

Jumping her way to states, Guilderland’s Isabella Bruno competes in the triple jump on Friday. Bruno won, leaping 35 feet, 5 1/4 inches; she also also competed in the long jump, finishing third at 17 feet, 1 ¾ inches.

Getting wet and just falling short, Guilderland’s Alyssa Jourdin (10) and teammate Erin Miceli (9) run in the 2000-meter steeplechase Friday afternoon. Jourdin finished in ninth place with a time of 8:01.48 and Miceli finished in eighth with a time of 7:58.49.

Just missing out on the state competition, Voorheesville’s Leureah Cummings attempts to clear the bar in the pole vault. Cummings finished in fourth place clearing 8 feet, 9 inches.
