Photos: Blackbirds and Dutch Athletes Will Compete At States

On Thursday and Friday, June 2 and 3, Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Voorheesville and Guilderland track athletes competed in the two-day Section 2 state qualifier event for this weekend's NYSPHSAA state meet in Cicero.

Best foot forward: Guilderland’s Avery Kerr clears the hurdle with her right leg as she battles in the hurdle portion of the pentathlon. Kerr finished in third in the 100-meter hurdle event and won the pentathlon with 2530 points in division one.

Quick running: Guilderland’s Kendall Barnhart sprints away from the starting block in her division one, 400-meter run. Barnhart finished fourth with a time of 59.83 seconds.

Coming in for a landing: Guilderland’s Josh Jerome leaps from his third step in the division one, triple jump event. Jerome finished in third with a distance of 41 feet, 2.25 inches.

Focused: Guilderland’s Parker Steele leaps over the first of many hurdles in the division one, 400-meter hurdle event. Steele finished in fifth with a time of 1:07.48.

Bulldog Arlan Wright clears the hurdle with ease in the Division 2, 400-meter hurdle event. Wright finished in fourth with a time of 1.01.34.

Splash down: Guilderland’s William Bogue prepares to come down to hit the pit in the division one, long jump event. Bogue finished in fifth with a time distance of 19 feet, 5.50 inches.

Following closely: Voorheesville’s Mariem Sayahi gets a draft off Hoosic Valley’s Sophia Squires in the division two, 3000-meter run. Sayahi finished in fifth with a time of 10:50.75 but qualified for states on Friday in the 2000-meter steeplechase.

All in line: Voorheesville’s Caitlin McCarthy (11) along with teammates Lindsey Wight (13) and Victoria Iacabucci (12) all compete in the division 2, 3000-meter run. McCarthy finished in sixth with a time of 11:13.48, Wight finished in eighth with a time of 11:32.55, and Iacabucci finished in ninth with a time of 11:39.46.

Relaxed running: Guilderland’s Aakash Iyer runs in front of Bethlehem’s Mikey Murphy in the division 1, 3200-meter run. Iyer finished in 10th with a time of 10:32.14.

All out effort: Guilderland’s Avery Kerr leaps to try and clear the bar set at 1.51 meters and wins the event at 1.48 meters. Kerr won the Division 1 pentathlon event with 2530 points and will compete at states.
