Last Thursday, June 6, before the BKW softball team headed down to Long Island to compete in the NYSPHSAA softball tournament, they stopped by the East Berne Firehouse for a quick bite with family and friends before being escorted off the hill.

The Berne-Knox-Westerlo Varsity Softball team is heading to state competition for the first time in the school’s history. On Thursday, the team arrived with an escort of firetrucks where an exuberant crowd was waiting in the firehouse to send them off in style. The Bulldogs will face Union Springs, from the Finger Lakes, on Long Island Friday.

Royal treatment: A van carrying the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Varsity Softball team was escorted by a fire truck on Thursday to the firehouse where rain did not dampen the spirits or high hopes of the crowd who sent the team off to the state semifinals on Long Island Friday.
