Photos: Dutch, Birds, And Bulldogs Will Compete Against NYS Best

Last Thursday and Friday, May 30 and 31, track athletes from Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Guilderland, and Voorheesville took to the track at Guilderland High School in hopes to compete at the state competition this coming weekend in Syracuse. Guilderland will be sending 13, BKW will send one and Voorheesville has one.

Cruising along: Guilderland’s Avery Kerr easily clears the second to last hurdle in the 100-meter portion in the pentathlon. Kerr finished 3rd with a time of 16.54 seconds and previously qualified for states in the pentathlon.

Better than the last: Guilderland’s Ryan Rainka clears the last hurdle as the previous hurdle falls in the 110-meter hurdle portion in the pentathlon. Rainka finished sixth with a time of 18.28 seconds and seventh in the pentathlon with 2445 points.

Big exhale: Bulldogs’ Arlen Wright breezes over the hurdle during his 110-meter hurdle portion of the pentathlon. Wright finished second with a time of 16.27 seconds and won the pentathlon to qualify for states with 3095 points.

Making a big throw: Guilderland’s Malachi Gulley uses his strength to let his discus fly away during the discus event. Gulley finished 13th with a distance of 110 feet, 6 inches.

Dutch trio: Guilderland’s Kendall Barnhart, center, Lauren Burnash, and Saida Assabahi all race down the final stretch trying to catch Columbia’s Ava Weiss in the 400-meters. Barnhart finished second with a time of 56.64 seconds, Assabahi finished third, and qualified for states, with a time of 57.74 seconds, and Burnash fourth with a time of 59.87 seconds.

Battling hard: Guilderland’s Jack Larson (6) and Brady Conboy (4) battle Ballston Spa’s Kala’i Makanani as they approach the finish line in the 400-meters. Conboy finished second with a time of 50.03 seconds and Larson third with a time of 50.27 seconds.

Pacing: Guilderland’s Kara Whiteside (3) and Julia Beyer (6) head down the front stretch as they complete a lap in the first heat of the 800-meters. Whiteside finished 5th with a time of 2:21.36 and Beyer finished 6th with a time of 2:21.83.

Trying to stay close: Blackbirds’ Avery Grant breathes heavy as she tries to get close to the top two division 2 runners as she competes in the 800-meters. Grant finished third with a time of 2:19.07.

Flying pup: Bulldogs’ Arlen Wright flies in the air and easily clears the bar in the high jump portion of the pentathlon. Wright won the high jump at a height of 5 feet, 10.75 inches and won the pentathlon with 3095 points to qualify for states.
