Photos: Blackbirds Fly In Sectionals

On Tuesday afternoon, May 24, the Voorheesville Blackbirds track team competed in the Section 2, Group 4 sectionals. Some athletes qualified for next week's state qualifier. The girls finished in fourth with 69 points and the boys finished in sixth with 38 points.

Hair flying: Voorheesville’s Haley Murphy leaps over the hurdle in the 100-meter hurdle portion of the pentathlon. Murphy had the 11th fastest time at 21.62 seconds and finished fourth place with 1647 points.

Leading the way: Voorheesville’s Mariem Sayahi takes the lead in the girls’ 1500-meter run. Sayahi finished third with a time of 5:09.54.

Running shoulder to shoulder are Voorheesville’s Connor Smith, right, and James Provoznik in the boys’ 1600-meter run. Smith finished in fifth with a time of 4:53.10 and Provoznik finished in seventh with a time of 5:05.12.

Little jump: Voorheesville’s Anna Hampston clears the first hurdle of the girls’ 400-meter hurdles. Hampston finished in 14th with a time of 1:28.61.

Pushing one another: Voorheesville’s Caitlin McCarthy (3), Victoria Iacabucci (4), and Lindsey Wight (5) all ran together in the girls’ 3000-meter run. McCarthy finished in second with a time of 11:17.40, Iacabucci finished in fourth with a time of 11:24.69 and Wight finished in fifth with a time of 11:24.72.
