Maria Duarte, who moved to the United States to live with her daughter in Guilderland in 2006, turned 100 last week. She celebrated Tuesday with a special cake that her family brought to the Tuesday lunch for seniors. Duarte, originally from Chihuhua, Mexico, has been coming to Guilderland senior-center activities for years and is “a beautiful person on the inside and out,” said Mary Ann Kelley, the town’s coordinator of senior activities. “Even though there’s that little bit of language barrier, she has so many friends in the room. The bond has been made,” Kelly said.
