Plumes of smoke billow from this eight-year-old center-hall Colonial-style home, which suffered substantial damage, most heavily in the attic, in a May 13 fire on Beaver Dam Road in New Scotland. The residents got out unharmed and no firefighters were injured. Volunteers fought the flames, from both the outside and the inside of the house; the structure still stands.

From beneath the wing of his plane, Russell Pokorny photographed a house on fire Tuesday morning on Beaver Dam Road in New Scotland. The time of dispatch was 8:45 a.m. and, when firefighters arrived, there were already flames through the roof. A pond at Camp Pinnacle, about two miles away, was used for water. Volunteers responding to the scene came from Berne, East Berne, New Salem, and Onesquethaw. Westerlo and Voorheesville departments were on standby, and North Bethlehem offered rehab on site.
