Photos: Bulldogs vault, run, and hurl at championships
It was a beautiful day in Fort Plain on Tuesday for the Western Athletic Conference Championships in track-and-field, and Berne-Knox-Westerlo had a good showing.
The boys’ team, which shared a regular-season title with Duanesburg, placed fourth out of 10 teams with 83 points, just behind Mayfield-Northville in third place with 86 points. Duanesburg took the overall championship with 116 points.
The girls’ team, which got two first-place finishes from junior Allie Tedeschi, placed fifth out of 10 teams with 62 points, two points behind Duanesburg in fourth. Canajoharie won the overall championship over Middleburgh by one point, 139 to 138.
Here are the top Berne-Knox-Westerlo results from Tuesday, going in order from first place to fifth place:
First place: Allie Tedeschi, 3000-meter, 11:36.5; Allie Tedeschi, 2000-meter steeplechase, 8:03.4; Anna White; pole vault; 7 feet, 6 inches; boys’ 400-meter relay, 46.9 seconds; boys’ 3200-meter relay, 9:15.6; and Kyle Anderson; pentathlon; 2, 208 points.
Second place: Annie-Laura Shafer, 1500-meter, 5:26; Sam Abbott, 100-meter dash, 11.5 seconds; boys’ 1600-meter relay, 3:41.0; Matt Steadman, pole vault, 10 feet; and Sam Abbott; long jump; 19 feet, 10 ¾ inches.
Third place: Marleana Von Haugg, 400-meter hurdles, 78.3 seconds; Lukus Becker, 3000-meter steeplechase, 11:46.2; Trevor Brown; triple jump; 38 feet, 5 inches; and Troy Tuper; shot put; 39 feet, 7 inches.
Fourth place: Annie-Laura Shafer, 800-meter, 2:38.7; and the girls’ 1600-meter relay, 4:40.6;
Fifth place: Micayla Sheridan, 200-meter dash, 29.2 seconds; girls’ 400-meter relay, 56.6 seconds; girls’ 3200-meter relay, 11:39.5; Kristen Norray; shot put; 26 feet, 5 inches; and Troy Tuper; high jump; 5 feet, 6 inches.
