Bundled against the cold, Guilderland lacrosse players watch, while wearing their masks, as first responders and supporters drive past as a salute. The team members responded with their thanks as well. The parade served as a celebration for the players who had their season cut short by coronavirus restrictions.

Lights and sounds come to life down Furbeck Road on Saturday in front of Christmas Land as the Guilderland Police, Albany County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, and many fire departments from Guilderland along with friends and family of Guilderland High School lacrosse players cheered and thanked the players and seniors for their contributions to the lacrosse program. The parade was put on by the Guilderland Lacrosse Booster Club.

The season they didn’t expect: Nine Guilderland lacrosse seniors stand by their banners lining the fence at Christmas Land after they planted pine trees on Saturday. The seniors were then joined by their teammates for a team photo prior to being saluted by a parade of parents’ cars, police patrol cars, and fire trucks. Fresh snow clings to clumps of grass on the cold, windy day.

Fresh dirt: Three members of the boys’ lacrosse team at Guilderland High School shovel new soil into a wheelbarrow so that saplings they planted can grow in the fields of Christmas Land on the outskirts of Altamont for years to come.

“Trees of hope” is what Paula Tambasco called the pine trees the Guilderland boys’ lacrosse team planted on Saturday along the fence line of Christmas Land on Furbeck Road. “We have a not-for-profit, Seeds of Hope,” said Tambasco, Christmas Land’s founder; she said she could envision children visiting Christmas Land and decorating the trees in years to come.
