Big toys: Members of the New York National Guard brought some of its machinery for kids to see as their parents dropped off donations for veterans at Crossgates Mall on Saturday, filling three trucks. The donations will benefit the Veterans and Community Housing Coalition and The Veterans Miracle Center.

Conga line: A volunteer opens up the trunk of a car Saturday at Crossgates Mall in Guilderland to take out donations for veterans. Drivers remained safely in their cars while volunteers loaded the goods into military trucks. “It’s sad that there is such a thing as homeless veterans and hungry veterans. These heroes have fought for our country. They should not have to fight for food,” said one of the event’s organizers, Michelle Viola Straight.
