“This bag reminds me of Albany and the people of Albany that surrounded me with love,” says Mary, a sexual assault victim, who kept the red bag that was given to her at Albany Medical Center. She cried as she spoke to a crowd of roughly 700 at the University of Albany last Thursday. The students had gathered to help fill 700 bags for sexual-assault survivors.

One item at a time: University at Albany students line a table as they pick up one item of each type that to put into bags for sexual-assault victims who walk into the emergency room at Albany Medical Center. The bags, which contain stuffed animals, personal notes, and hygiene products, are meant to comfort survivors in their time of need.
