“This is today’s world,” said Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple after the March 24 active shooter drill at Clayton A. Bouton High School in Voorheesville — the largest such drill ever held in Albany County, involving 275 people.

Outside the school, as a police helicopter whirs overhead, Albany County Sheriff’s MWRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected, and was acquired as surplus from the war in Iraq) stands ready for shooters who make their way outside as a SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics) team works inside the building.
