Photos: Sap Run 5K and Maple Festival
Runners took to the streets in Knox last Saturday, March 19, for the fifth annual Sap Run. The prize for winners? a pint of maple syrup.

Off and running: A total of 115 runners competed in the annual Sap Run 5K on Saturday morning in Knox on Route 156. Clayton Orzel, 15, from Galway, second from right (bib 2423), takes the lead and never looked back winning the race by 49 seconds with a time of 17:53. The annual Sap Run is a fundraiser for the Helderberg Hilltowns Association; its mission is to preserve and promote farms, businesses, culture, and recreational opportunities in the Hilltowns of Albany County.

Nancy Briskie, 58, from Schenectady finishes first for the women in the annual Sap Run 5K on Saturday with a time of 22:40. Knox supervisor Vasilios Lefkaditis and New York State Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara gave the top winners in each group their medals. Both also received a prize of a pint of maple syrup donated by Mountain Winds Farm in Berne.
