Even when temperatures plummeted, the athletes from Guilderland, Berne-Knox-Westerlo, and Voorheesville made sure they brought the heat to their opponents in sectional and state competition this winter sports season.

Making some history: Guilderland's Valencia Fontenelle-Posson became the second girl in school history to break the 1,000-point plateau but it came in the Dutch’s 59-to-53 Class AA sectional loss to Colonie.

Bending over backwards: Guilderland Gymnast Rachel Drislane who finished in the top 25 in the all-around in all four events at state competition; teammate Allison Rem also competed at states.

The Voorheesville boys’ volleyball team took down the number-one team, Germantown, in the Section 2 Class C/D sectional final on Feb. 28 and went on to play Section 3’s Canastota in the Regional final. The Birds beat undefeated Canastota in three sets to capture their third straight regional title, the fourth in five years.

Heartbreak: Taylor Meacham help lead the BKW Bulldogs to the Class C sectional quarterfinals against Warrensburg but Meacham and the Bulldogs saw their season end with less than a second to go in the Bulldogs’ 57-to-56 loss.
