Photos: Local Teams Run Amongst NYS Bests

On Friday and Saturday, March 6 and 7, Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Bethlehem, Guilderland, and Voorheesville athletes battled on the track at Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex on Staten Island against other top New York state runners. Guilderland won the state championship in the 4x400-meter relay.

Championship handoff: Guilderland’s Lauren Hickey extends the baton to teammate Addison Vellekoop for the last leg of the 4x400-meters relay where Vellekoop won it coming off the last turn for the Dutch. Guilderland won the state title with a time of 3:54.00, which broke the school record. Then, on Saturday, the team finished 8th in the federation.

Going hard: Guilderland’s Fiona McCarthy swings her arms quickly as she comes down the track in the 55-meter dash semifinal. McCarthy finished 28th in the state with a time of 7.46 seconds.

Hard sprint: Bulldogs’ Kole Irwin comes down the track at full speed as he battles seven other runners in the 55-meter dash final. Irwin finished fifth in the state and federation with a time of 6.41 seconds.

In the mix: Guilderland’s Tara Iyer leads the second group of runners in the first heat of the 3200-meters. Iyer finished 25th with a time of 10:21.99.
